Built in 1934, this was the first official building constructed in Berlin during the Nazi period. The architecture of this ministry symbolises the contrast between the tragic history and promising future of Berlin. There is also a contrast between the building's imposing stone walls and successive rows of narrow windows and its vast, spacious entrance which consists of interlocking plates of glass rising up the whole of its height. If you pass by be sure to look through the sort of 'showcase' into the courtyard beyond which is also covered with a glass roof and around which the offices are arranged. The sheer size of this building can be overpowering yet at the same time this abundant use of glass makes it quite welcoming.
