Mongolia is now a democracy and today the capital Oulan-Bator is home to fashion boutiques and restaurants and its Korean taxi drivers sit at the wheel of a Japanese 4x4 instead of a Russian Lada. However Mongolia is known above all for the vast expanses of its steppes and Gobi desert, which still echo with the cavalcades of the Golden Horde of Genghis Khan. A large proportion of the population is nomadic and live frugally from rearing wild horses, sheep, yaks and camels. So why not go and meet these people in their yurts, share their frugal life-style and race across these vast, unspoilt expanses of land - on horseback of course !
